No, really, we had to look it up. RTO is short for "Return To Office". Many organizations have been pushing employees back into offices and we can’t help but ask: why?
Companies cite a few common reasons for RTO:
- Collaboration and “serendipitous” conversations
- Faster onboarding for new teammates
- Security and compliance constraints (depending on the work)
- Real-estate decisions already made
The tradeoff is real. Commutes and rigid schedules can reduce productivity, widen hiring constraints, and make it harder for teams to attract and retain great people.
