What is Vibe Coding? How AI is Changing Software Development in 2025

A new approach to software development called "Vibe Coding" is breaking the barrier between software idea and first prototype for non-technical business owners. As Future Wonder continues to help clients navigate emerging technologies, we're closely monitoring the rise of Vibe coding — as it reshapes who can build software.

Vibe coding represents a shift in software development, where artificial intelligence transforms natural language descriptions into functional code. Coined by former Tesla AI Director Andrej Karpathy in February 2025, this approach allows anyone to "fully give in to the vibes" and focus on outcomes rather than implementation details. It democratizes programming for non-technical users, a movement started by the advent of Low code platforms like Bubble, Adalo and Webflow.

This shift of AI-assisted programming is already reshaping how investors evaluate talent and startup potential. Leading venture capitalists note they're now prioritizing domain expertise and AI proficiency over traditional coding skills when evaluating startup founders.

From Eli Serrano, an Ecosystem Developer at the Mill and the founder of V Codinator: "By using AI code generation tools, anybody can talk naturally to tools like Lovable or v0 to make a simple MVP, landing page, or a rough draft of their idea. These tools and techniques empower anyone to build without having coding experience. Allowing them to focus more time on the human elements such as design, creativity and validation while AI helps write the code."

Vibe coding addresses a core challenge in modern development: rapidly prototyping ideas without getting stuck in technical implementation. For early-stage concepts and MVP development, teams can focus purely on outcomes rather than code quality, dramatically accelerating the path from idea to working prototype.

However, the approach requires new skills. Teams must learn effective AI prompting techniques, and human oversight remains critical to ensure functionality and security.

Industry leaders see this as just the beginning. OpenAI's Sam Altman predicts software engineering will "look completely different" by end of 2025, while Anthropic's Dario Amodei suggests AI could write "essentially all code" within 12 months.

Based on our Charioteering so far with AI this year we believe the tipping point will come next year. Our development team has been experimenting with Agent AI based coding approaches (Charioteering) across several client projects. We've found that outcome driven Vibe coding can push concepts from zero to working prototypes remarkably quickly. We then move from Vibe Coding to using AI in a more traditional code focused way for quality production ready products that can scale safely and securely.

At Future Wonder we build technology platforms to last that can be cleanly maintained and incrementally expanded by human developers. We focus on:

  • Quality-reviewed code that can be built upon and relied on for long-term success
  • Comprehensive unit testing ensuring code works initially and continues working during refactoring When clients need to evolve their platforms, both AI Agents and human developers can innovate much more successfully with solid unit-tested codebases that catch errors.

Major tech leaders like Microsoft and Google report AI now generates 20-30% of their newly written code, with some startups achieving million-dollar revenues using teams under 10 people.

Ready to explore AI-assisted development while maintaining code quality? Do you need to expand and build your platform? Future Wonder helps teams choose and adopt AI coding approaches with proper testing foundations.
